AUTO CANDY TERMS & CONDITIONS

Last updated: 12 September 2026

These Terms and Conditions apply to services supplied by Auto Candy Ltd, trading as Auto Candy (“Auto Candy”, “we”, “us” or “our”), and to the use of the Auto Candy website.

By requesting a quotation, making a booking, authorising work, leaving wheels or other items with Auto Candy, making payment, or otherwise engaging Auto Candy to provide services, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit or exclude any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under New Zealand law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986.

1. Our Services

Auto Candy provides specialist alloy and mag wheel repair, refurbishment and customisation services, which may include:

  • CNC diamond-cut resurfacing

  • Kerb damage repair

  • Full wheel refurbishment and restoration

  • Media blasting

  • Chemical stripping

  • Wheel straightening and buckle correction

  • TIG-welded crack repair

  • Powder coating

  • Automotive paint refinishing

  • Wheel colour changes

  • Custom and multi-stage finishes

  • Other associated wheel services agreed with the customer

Not every wheel can safely or practically undergo every service. Auto Candy reserves the right to refuse work where we believe a wheel, component, requested process or proposed repair may be unsafe, unsuitable or unlikely to produce an acceptable result.

2. Quotes, Estimates and Initial Assessments

Auto Candy may provide an initial price indication based on photographs, descriptions or information supplied by the customer.

A photograph-based quotation or assessment may not reveal all damage or defects. The final scope of work may change once tyres are removed, coatings are stripped, wheels are cleaned or the wheel is physically inspected.

Where we provide a fixed quote, that price applies to the agreed scope of work unless:

  • the customer requests additional work;

  • previously hidden damage or defects are discovered;

  • the condition of the wheel differs materially from the information originally provided; or

  • both parties agree to a variation.

Under New Zealand consumer guidance, an accepted quote is generally the agreed price unless the customer agrees to additional work or the scope changes. An estimate, by contrast, is an informed approximation rather than a fixed price.

Where additional work is required, we will normally contact you before carrying it out and explain any material additional cost.

3. Customer Information

Customers must provide Auto Candy with accurate information about the wheel and, where relevant, the vehicle.

This may include previous repairs, welding, straightening, cracks, corrosion, machining, refinishing or other damage that may affect the work.

Auto Candy is not responsible for problems caused by relevant information being deliberately withheld or inaccurately provided, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

4. Authority to Authorise Work

The person instructing Auto Candy represents that they:

  • own the wheels or other property being worked on; or

  • have authority from the owner to authorise the work.

The customer authorises Auto Candy to carry out the services specifically agreed in the quotation, booking or subsequent approved variation.

We will not intentionally undertake significant additional chargeable work outside the agreed scope without customer approval.

Consumer Protection New Zealand notes that leaving an item with a repairer authorises the agreed or necessary repair work, not unrelated additional work, and significant extras should be agreed with the customer.

5. Wheel Condition and Hidden Damage

Wheel refurbishment involves working with used components that may have an unknown history.

Damage that may not be visible before work begins can include:

  • previous welds

  • internal cracks

  • corrosion beneath coatings

  • excessive previous machining

  • porosity

  • casting defects

  • heat damage

  • metal fatigue

  • distortion

  • previous filler or cosmetic repairs

  • previous straightening

  • weakened bead areas

  • damage concealed by tyres, paint or powder coat

Removing an existing finish may reveal defects that could not reasonably have been identified beforehand.

If significant hidden damage is discovered, Auto Candy may stop work and contact the customer before proceeding.

6. Diamond-Cut Resurfacing

Diamond-cut refurbishment involves removing a very small amount of material from the wheel face using CNC machining.

Because material is removed during the process, a wheel can only be diamond-cut a finite number of times. The safe number of cuts depends on the original wheel design, existing condition, previous machining and the amount of material that must be removed.

Auto Candy may refuse to machine a wheel where we believe further material removal is inappropriate.

The customer acknowledges that:

  • deep kerb damage may not always be completely removable;

  • severe damage may require repair before machining;

  • previous diamond cutting may limit the amount of material available;

  • previously damaged or corroded aluminium may become visible during machining;

  • minor differences from the original factory machining pattern may occur;

  • exact duplication of an OEM finish is not always technically possible.

We will aim to achieve the best practical finish without unnecessarily removing material.

7. Wheel Straightening and Buckle Correction

Straightening involves controlled force and, where appropriate, controlled heating of the wheel.

Previously damaged aluminium may contain internal stress, fatigue, cracks or weaknesses that cannot always be detected before straightening.

Auto Candy will exercise reasonable care and skill when performing straightening work. However, a wheel with significant pre-existing damage may crack, fracture or reveal additional damage during the straightening process despite appropriate repair techniques.

If this occurs, we will assess the wheel and discuss the available options with the customer.

Auto Candy may decline to continue repairing a wheel where we believe its condition makes further repair inappropriate or unsafe.

8. Crack Repairs

Where appropriate, cracks may be repaired using TIG welding and associated preparation and finishing processes.

Not every crack is suitable for repair.

Factors including the position, length, number and severity of cracks, previous repairs and overall wheel condition may affect whether a repair should be attempted.

Auto Candy reserves the right to refuse a crack repair where we consider the wheel unsuitable.

Repairing an existing crack does not guarantee that a different part of an already damaged or fatigued wheel will never crack in the future.

Any specific repair warranty offered by Auto Candy is in addition to, and does not replace, rights available under New Zealand consumer law.

9. Media Blasting and Chemical Stripping

Media blasting and chemical stripping are used to remove existing finishes and prepare the wheel for refurbishment.

The stripping process may expose:

  • corrosion;

  • pitting;

  • previous repairs;

  • filler;

  • casting imperfections;

  • previous welding;

  • substrate deterioration; or

  • other defects previously concealed by the existing finish.

These defects may require additional preparation or repair.

Where additional work would materially change the price, we will seek customer approval before continuing.

10. Powder Coating, Painting and Colour Changes

Auto Candy will take reasonable care to produce a high-quality refinished surface.

Customers should understand that refinishing used wheels is different from manufacturing new wheels in a factory.

Minor variations can occur due to:

  • wheel substrate condition;

  • casting quality;

  • existing corrosion;

  • contamination;

  • previous repairs;

  • coating thickness;

  • curing;

  • colour batch variation;

  • lighting; and

  • the shape and geometry of the wheel.

Digital screens, photographs and colour charts may not reproduce colours exactly.

Where colour matching an existing wheel, exact colour matching cannot always be guaranteed, particularly where the existing finish has faded or where the original manufacturer's formula is unavailable.

11. Custom Finishes

Custom wheel finishes may involve multiple colours, masking, machining, painting, powder coating or other specialised techniques.

Where a custom design is created specifically for a customer, the finished appearance may contain small variations arising from the physical wheel design and manual finishing process.

Before commencing complex custom work, Auto Candy may ask the customer to approve a concept, sample, colour or general finish direction.

Once approved and applied, a change of preference is not considered a defect.

This does not affect any rights relating to workmanship or failure to provide the service agreed.

12. Kerb Damage and Cosmetic Repair

Our aim is to substantially improve or restore damaged areas.

Very deep gouges, severe metal loss, corrosion, previous repairs or distortion may mean that completely restoring a wheel to an indistinguishable factory-new condition is not reasonably possible.

Where this is likely to materially affect the finished appearance, we will endeavour to discuss it with the customer.

13. Tyres, Valves, Sensors and Associated Components

Where tyres, valves, wheel weights, centre caps or tyre-pressure monitoring components must be removed or handled as part of the work, Auto Candy will take reasonable care.

Some components are consumable, aged or designed for limited reuse.

Components found to be worn, damaged, seized or unsuitable for reuse may require replacement. We will advise the customer where a material additional charge is required.

Customers should tell us about unusual or specialist tyre-pressure monitoring systems, valves or wheel hardware before work begins.

14. Turnaround Times

Any completion date provided by Auto Candy is an estimate unless expressly agreed otherwise.

Turnaround may be affected by:

  • hidden wheel damage;

  • additional repair requirements;

  • curing time;

  • stripping difficulty;

  • parts or material availability;

  • customer-requested changes;

  • third-party services;

  • freight delays;

  • equipment issues; or

  • circumstances reasonably outside our control.

We will make reasonable efforts to complete work within the agreed timeframe.

Where no specific timeframe has been agreed, the Consumer Guarantees Act requires consumer services to be completed within a reasonable time.

15. Prices and GST

Prices will be stated as inclusive or exclusive of GST as applicable.

Customers should refer to their quotation or invoice for the final pricing basis.

Where no price has been agreed beforehand, New Zealand consumer law requires that the price charged for a consumer service be reasonable.

16. Deposits

Auto Candy may require a deposit before commencing certain work, ordering materials, arranging freight or accepting a booking.

Where a deposit is required, the amount and applicable conditions will be communicated to the customer before payment.

A deposit may be applied toward costs reasonably incurred where a customer cancels after materials have been ordered or work has commenced, subject to the customer's rights under applicable law.

17. Cancellations and Changes

Please advise us as early as possible if you need to cancel or change a booking.

If no work has commenced and Auto Candy has not incurred costs relating specifically to the booking, cancellation will normally be straightforward.

If work has commenced, special materials have been ordered, freight has been arranged or other non-recoverable costs have been incurred, the customer may be responsible for the reasonable cost of work completed and costs incurred up to the point of cancellation, subject to applicable law.

18. Payment

Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due when the work has been completed and before the wheels or other goods are released to the customer.

Accepted payment methods may change from time to time.

Auto Candy may retain repaired goods while genuinely disputed or outstanding repair charges are being dealt with to the extent permitted by New Zealand law. New Zealand consumer guidance recognises repairer's lien rights in certain circumstances.

19. Collection of Completed Wheels

Customers should collect completed wheels promptly after being advised that the work is finished.

If goods remain uncollected for an extended period, Auto Candy may contact the customer and may charge reasonable storage costs where these have been disclosed and are lawfully recoverable.

New Zealand law provides a specific process for a repairer dealing with uncollected goods and repairer's liens. Consumer Protection states that, in certain circumstances involving an unresolved repair debt, goods may ultimately be sold after the statutory process and required notice have been followed. Auto Candy will not sell or dispose of customer property except in accordance with applicable law.

20. Freight, Collection and Delivery

Where Auto Candy arranges courier, freight, pickup or delivery, applicable charges will be disclosed where reasonably practicable.

Customers should package wheels appropriately where they are responsible for sending them to Auto Candy.

If goods arrive damaged in transit, customers should notify us as soon as possible so that the circumstances can be recorded and, where applicable, a freight claim considered.

Responsibility for freight loss or damage will be determined according to the particular arrangement and applicable New Zealand law.

21. Inspection After Completion

Customers should inspect their wheels when they receive them and contact Auto Candy promptly if they believe there is an issue.

Prompt notification allows us to assess the issue before the wheels undergo additional use, damage, modification or repair by another party.

If you believe our service does not meet the guarantees provided by the Consumer Guarantees Act, please contact us and give us a reasonable opportunity to inspect and remedy the issue where appropriate.

Consumers may have statutory remedies where services fail to meet the guarantees required by the CGA.

22. Warranty and Consumer Rights

Any warranty or guarantee specifically offered by Auto Candy is additional to the customer's rights under New Zealand law.

Nothing on our website, quotation, invoice or in these Terms excludes consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

In particular, services supplied to consumers must satisfy the guarantees contained in the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

Normal wear, subsequent impacts, new kerb damage, misuse, inappropriate cleaning products, damage caused by third parties and damage unrelated to Auto Candy's work are not defects in Auto Candy's service.

Each situation will be assessed on its circumstances.

23. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Auto Candy is not responsible for loss or damage caused by:

  • pre-existing wheel defects;

  • inaccurate information supplied by the customer;

  • subsequent impact or accident damage;

  • misuse;

  • unauthorised modifications;

  • repairs performed by another party after our work;

  • customer failure to follow reasonable care instructions; or

  • circumstances beyond Auto Candy's reasonable control.

This clause does not exclude or limit Auto Candy's liability where Auto Candy is legally responsible for failing to exercise reasonable care and skill or where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

Under the CGA, customers may be entitled to remedies and, in appropriate circumstances, compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss resulting from deficient services.

24. Business Customers

Where a customer acquires Auto Candy's goods or services in trade for business purposes, the parties may separately agree in writing that the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply, but only where the statutory requirements for contracting out are satisfied and doing so is fair and reasonable.

A business cannot simply use a general consumer-facing disclaimer to avoid the CGA. The Act requires a qualifying written business-to-business agreement and other conditions before contracting out is effective.

Unless Auto Candy and the business customer expressly agree otherwise in writing, these Terms should not be interpreted as automatically contracting out of the Consumer Guarantees Act.

25. Fair Trading

Auto Candy aims to ensure that descriptions, advertisements, quotations, photographs, prices and statements about our services are accurate.

The Fair Trading Act 1986 prohibits businesses from misleading consumers or making false or misleading representations about matters such as price, quality, services and what customers will receive.

Before-and-after photographs are intended to demonstrate work carried out on particular wheels and should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every wheel will achieve an identical result.

26. Website Information

Information on the Auto Candy website is provided for general information about our services.

While we make reasonable efforts to keep information current and accurate, services, pricing, processes and availability may change.

Website information does not constitute a binding quotation unless Auto Candy expressly confirms it as one.

27. Website Images

Images displayed on the Auto Candy website may include:

  • photographs of Auto Candy work;

  • illustrative imagery;

  • digitally enhanced images;

  • design concepts; and

  • promotional graphics.

Images are intended to communicate the nature and style of our services. Actual results vary according to wheel condition, design, damage and the service selected.

28. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the Auto Candy name, branding, graphics, website content, photographs, designs and other original material are owned by or licensed to Auto Candy.

They may not be reproduced, copied, modified or used commercially without permission.

29. Customer Photographs

Customers may send photographs or videos to Auto Candy for assessment and quotation purposes.

Our handling of personal information and customer photographs is governed by our Privacy Policy.

Auto Candy will not intentionally use an identifiable customer's photograph for public promotional purposes contrary to the permissions obtained from that customer or applicable privacy law.

30. Events Outside Our Reasonable Control

Auto Candy will not be treated as having failed to meet an agreed timeframe where performance is prevented or materially delayed by circumstances reasonably outside our control.

These may include natural disasters, power failures, equipment failure, supply-chain disruption, freight disruption, fire, serious illness or government restrictions.

We will take reasonable steps to minimise the effect of such circumstances and keep affected customers informed where appropriate.

31. Complaints

If you are unhappy with our workmanship or service, please contact us as soon as possible.

We would generally ask that you:

  1. explain the issue;

  2. provide photographs where useful;

  3. allow Auto Candy a reasonable opportunity to inspect the wheel; and

  4. allow us the opportunity to provide an appropriate remedy where required.

If a consumer dispute cannot be resolved directly, rights may be pursued through avenues such as the New Zealand Disputes Tribunal.

32. Changes to These Terms

Auto Candy may update these Terms and Conditions when our services, processes or legal requirements change.

The current version will be published on our website with the date it was last updated.

The terms applying to a particular job will generally be those provided or made available when that job was accepted, together with any subsequently agreed variations.

33. New Zealand Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand.

Any dispute will be dealt with under New Zealand law and through the appropriate New Zealand courts, tribunals or dispute-resolution processes.
